Daedong to Lead National Agricultural AX Platform With a 20-Year, KRW 1.53 Trillion Business Model
-. A special purpose company (SPC) will be established through joint investment by the central government, local governments and private companies to build a privately led agricultural AX business model for long-term operation.
-. AI greenhouses, an AI and data platform, and precision farming services will be developed and operated on a site of about 100,000 pyeong in Muan-gun, Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City.
-. The SPC targets KRW 1.53 trillion in cumulative revenue over 20 years and will pursue a “K-AI Agriculture” model linking data, AI, agricultural machinery and robots.
Daedong (Co-CEOs Kim Jun-Sik and Won Yu-Hyun), a leader in future agriculture, announced on July 28, 2026, that it has been selected as the final operator for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “National Agricultural AX Platform Development and Operation Project,” the first of its kind in Korea, and is moving ahead with full-scale implementation.
The National Agricultural AX Platform is a new agricultural AX business model—the first in the agricultural sector to put private companies in the lead with government financial and administrative support. Under this structure, the central government, local governments and private companies jointly invest in a special purpose company (SPC) to lay the groundwork for the business and take responsibility for operations and revenue generation. The aim is to combine the public sector’s policy role with the private sector’s technological and business capabilities to move AI agriculture beyond technology deployment and expand it into a sustainable business model.
To this end, a consortium led by Daedong, with participation from LG CNS, Daedong AgTech, Daeyoung GS, Artfarm Agricultural Cooperative Corporation, Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City and Muan-gun, plans to establish a public-private joint-venture SPC by year-end. As consortium leader, Daedong will oversee project implementation and management, drawing on the field-focused agricultural AX technologies and business capabilities it has developed in areas including AI agricultural machinery, autonomous driving and precision agriculture.

Daedong AgTech is a Daedong Group affiliate responsible for future businesses, including the development of autonomous driving hardware and monitoring and control solutions. It will participate in the National Agricultural AX Platform project as a supplier of core smart farming technologies. The company will build AI greenhouses for the SPC and supply next-generation smart greenhouse products and technologies, including AI-based cultivation solutions and autonomous agricultural robots, playing a key role in the successful operation of the National Agricultural AX Platform.
Total investment in the project will be KRW 254.6 billion, with Daedong planning to contribute about KRW 20 billion in equity. Under the business plan, the SPC aims to generate about KRW 1.53 trillion in cumulative revenue over the next 20 years by selling and distributing produce grown in AI greenhouses and providing AI and data platform services and precision farming services. Rather than ending as a short-term government-supported initiative, the project is designed to establish an agricultural AX business model sustained by its own revenue, with the option to extend operations beyond the project period depending on performance and operating conditions.
The SPC will develop and operate three core businesses: an AI and data platform, AI greenhouses, and precision farming services. It will integrate crop growth, environmental, operational and production data from open-field and protected cultivation, with AI analyzing the data to support farming decisions. The analysis results will be linked to actual farming operations performed by autonomous agricultural machinery and agricultural robots, creating a virtuous cycle of agricultural AX: agricultural data collection → AI analysis and decision-making support → on-farm execution by agricultural machinery and robots → accumulation of new data.
In particular, a large-scale AI greenhouse covering about 21.6 hectares (about 65,000 pyeong) will be built in Muan-gun. It will use AI-based environmental and crop growth management, integrated monitoring and control, and automation technologies such as agricultural robots. Data generated in the greenhouse will be linked to the AI and data platform to support crop growth diagnostics, harvest forecasting and cultivation decisions. By combining AI, data and automation technologies in a large-scale AI greenhouse to assess productivity and commercial viability over the long term, the project is expected to serve as a pioneering model for the wider adoption of large-scale, high-tech glass greenhouses in Korea.

The project is also expected to serve as a focal point for accelerating the AI transformation of Korean agriculture. While AI transformation is progressing rapidly across industries such as manufacturing and finance, agricultural data on crop growth, environmental conditions, agricultural machinery, farming operations and distribution remain scattered across different sites and systems. Integrating these data and building a foundation for their use by AI have long been identified as key challenges. The National Agricultural AX Platform will connect fragmented agricultural data within a single framework and build a nationwide AX foundation that links AI analysis results to actual operations by agricultural machinery and agricultural robots.
